The Jesuit Diego González Holguín publishes in Lima his Vocabulario de la lengua general de todo el Peru, a major Quechua–Spanish dictionary, following his Quechua grammar of 1607. Based on the speech of Cusco, it records thousands of words, including many terms for Andean social and religious concepts. He had worked for decades as a missionary in the Andes.

## Why it matters
The dictionary remains a key source for colonial Quechua and for understanding Andean culture as it existed shortly after the conquest.
