General Blažo Đukanović became ban days before the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia of 6 April 1941; the banovina ceased to exist with the Yugoslav capitulation on 17 April 1941. During the Italian occupation he headed a collaborationist National Committee (1942–43) and was killed by the Partisans in October 1943. The former ban General Blažo Đukanović headed the National Committee, an anti-communist administrative body cooperating with the Italian authorities and the Chetniks. He was captured and killed by the Partisans at Lijeva Rijeka in October 1943.
