Eric Armar Vully de Candole was chief administrator of Cyrenaica from 1948 and British Resident from September 1949, when Idris became Emir of Cyrenaica, until independence in 1951. Tripolitania and Cyrenaica were under British administration from 1943 until Libyan independence on 24 December 1951.
