In June 2025 the Finnish Parliament approved extending the temporary Border Security Act, which had been due to expire in July 2025, until 31 December 2026. The extension was proposed by the Ministry of the Interior. The government argued that the threat of instrumentalised migration had not diminished. Critics continued to raise human rights concerns.

## Why it matters
The extension confirmed the long-term nature of Finland's emergency border measures.
