Coloman, King of Hungary from 1095, defeated Petar Snačić in 1097 and was crowned King of Croatia and Dalmatia in Biograd in 1102 after an agreement with the Croatian nobles traditionally known as the Pacta conventa. This union of the crowns lasted, in various forms, until 1918, with Croatia keeping its own ban and Sabor. He also took the Dalmatian cities of Zadar, Split and Trogir in 1105, granting them broad autonomy.
