Labisi was Alaafin for only a short time in 1754, at the start of the period in which the Bashorun Gaha dominated Oyo and forced successive Alaafins to commit ritual suicide. Dahomey paid annual tribute to Oyo from about 1730 until Ghezo repudiated it in 1823.
